Heterosis, a collaboration between Mat Collishaw and Danil Krivoruchko, is comprised of two main components – a collection of dynamic, breedable NFT flora, and an exceptional 'Greenhouse' - a virtual recreation of London's National Gallery in a post-apocalyptic state. All the digital flowers in the collection can be seen growing among the abandoned, overgrown ruins of the historic building. Upon purchase, each collector receives a Heterosis flower with a unique DNA and a combination of traits, generated based on the content of the owner's wallet and an element of luck. The owner of a Heterosis NFT can select any other flower in the collection as a second parent to adopt the other flower's traits for a new hybrid. Once the hybrid flower is generated, the owner can choose to keep it and replace their current flower with the new generation or reject it and keep their original flower, keeping the number of NFTs in the collection the same. Initially, the flowers in the collection have only basic traits, but through the hybridization game, collectors can activate mutations and unlock new colors, flower patterns, species, and other advanced characteristics. When a new attractive trait is discovered, it can spread across the entire population, similar to how diversification occurs in nature. All the flowers in the Heterosis NFT collection are visible in their current form in the 'Greenhouse,' a high-end digital representation of London's National Gallery, showcasing the ruins of the gallery in a state of disrepair and abandonment.
